Groups help you organize products with consistent attributes and enrichment rules. This guide shows you how to work with, create, and set up groups effectively.

Add new group

To create a new group, you’ll start in the group setup environment.

Step 1: Navigate to Groups

  1. Click Groups in the left sidebar menu
  2. You’ll see the group tree view with “All Products” or “Cernel Root Group” at the top

Step 2: Find the Add Button

Look for the + icon under “All Products” or “Cernel Root Group”. This is where you’ll create your first group.
Cernel Root Group is the master group that contains all your products. It’s the starting point for your entire group structure. When you add groups to the Root Group, you’re building the foundation of your product organization tree.

Step 3: Name Your Group

When you click the + icon, you’ll be prompted to provide a name for your group. Choose a clear, descriptive name that reflects what products belong in this group. Good examples:
  • “Upper Clothing”
  • “T-shirts”
  • “Electronics”
  • “Premium Products”
Why this matters: A clear name helps you and your team understand what products belong in each group at a glance.

Step 4: Add Group Conditions

Group conditions are the rules that determine which products belong in a group. They’re crucial for making sure product types are placed in the correct groups automatically. What are conditions based on? Conditions can use two types of data:
  1. Existing data points: Information already in your product catalog (like product type, category, price, material, etc.)
  2. AI classifications: Categories and attributes that Cernel’s AI agent can identify and classify
Example conditions:
  • product_type = "T-shirt" (uses existing data)
  • category = "Electronics" (uses existing data)
  • price > 100 (uses existing data)
  • AI-classified attributes like material, style, or occasion
Start simple with one condition, then add more as needed. You can always refine your conditions later to make them more specific.

Building Your Group Tree

By adding groups to the Cernel Root Group, you’re creating a group tree structure. The goal is to organize all relevant product types into the right groups, so each product type has:
  • The right attributes assigned
  • Consistent enrichment rules
  • Proper AI context for content generation
Think of your group tree like organizing a wardrobe: start with broad categories (like “Clothing”), then get more specific (like “T-shirts”), and even more specific (like “Child T-shirts”). Each level helps Cernel understand your products better.
